Core Banking Software in Rwanda

Unguka360 provides the core banking functions a Rwandan lending institution runs on — a single client master, the loan book, the general ledger, and the regulatory reporting layer above them — built for non-deposit-taking financial institutions, microfinance institutions, and lending cooperatives.

What "core banking" means here

Core banking software is the system of record at the centre of a financial institution: the one place where clients, accounts, balances, and transactions live, and the source every other report is derived from. Everything else — a portal, a reporting tool, a mobile channel — reads from it.

Unguka360 is that system of record for lending institutions. It is worth being precise about scope: Unguka360 serves non-deposit-taking lenders, so it carries the client master, the loan book, the ledger, and the reporting layer, and does not carry deposit accounts, teller operations, or clearing. If your institution is licensed to take deposits, the deposit side would sit outside this product.

The core functions, in one platform

These are not separate products stitched together at the point of sale. They share one client master and one ledger, which is why a disbursement recorded by a loan officer in a branch shows up in head office reporting without anyone re-keying it.

  • Client master with KYC documents, verification status, and full relationship history
  • Loan book covering origination, approval, disbursement, repayment, and recovery
  • General ledger with chart of accounts, journals, and trial balance
  • Loan tax handling and bank statement reconciliation
  • Multi-branch operations with consolidated head office reporting
  • Role-based access control across officers, managers, finance, and executives
  • Complete audit trail of every financial action and who authorized it
  • HR and payroll for staff across every branch

Built for Rwanda, not adapted to it

International core banking products are configurable, but their reporting is built for the jurisdiction they were written in. The gap is closed by consultants, and the quarterly return still gets assembled by hand.

Unguka360 was written for Rwanda from the start. The portfolio classification buckets, the quarterly returns to the National Bank of Rwanda, and the Credit Reference Bureau submission are product features, not a customization project — which is also why implementation is measured in weeks rather than quarters.

Hosted, secured, and auditable

Unguka360 is delivered as a hosted web platform. Branches need a browser and an internet connection rather than a server room and a local install, and updates reach every branch at once.

Access is role-based and every action is logged against the user who took it. Data is encrypted in transit, and the audit trail is designed to answer the question an internal auditor, a board, or a regulator actually asks: who did this, when, and on what authority.

Frequently asked questions

What is core banking software?
Core banking software is the central system of record for a financial institution — the single place where client records, accounts, balances, and transactions are held, and the source from which financial and regulatory reporting is produced. Other systems, such as portals or reporting tools, read from the core rather than maintaining their own copy of the data.
Does Unguka360 serve licensed deposit-taking banks?
Unguka360 is built for non-deposit-taking financial institutions, microfinance institutions, and lending cooperatives. It provides core banking functions on the lending side — client master, loan book, ledger, and reporting — and does not provide deposit accounts, teller operations, or clearing, so a licensed deposit-taking bank would need those elsewhere.
How long does implementation take?
Because the Rwandan reporting requirements are built in rather than configured per client, implementation is typically a matter of weeks: configuring your loan products and chart of accounts, importing the existing portfolio, setting up branches and user roles, and training staff.
Is our data hosted securely?
Yes. Unguka360 is a hosted web platform with encrypted transport, role-based access control so each user reaches only what their role requires, and an audit trail recording every financial action against the user who performed it.
