CRB Reporting Straight From Your Loan Records
Unguka360 prepares borrower and loan data for submission to Rwanda’s Credit Reference Bureau directly from the records your officers already maintain — no parallel spreadsheet, and no re-keying the loan register each reporting cycle.
Why credit reporting matters to a lender
Credit reference reporting is a two-way arrangement. Lenders submit borrower performance data to the bureau, and in return every lender in the market can see an applicant’s obligations elsewhere before extending new credit. The quality of what you can see depends on the quality of what everyone submits.
For an institution that reports late or inconsistently, the cost is not only a compliance question. It is also lending blind to applicants who are already over-committed at three other lenders.
Submission data assembled from the loan book
The borrower identity, the facility, the outstanding balance, the repayment performance, and the arrears position all already exist in Unguka360 as part of running the loan. The submission file is assembled from those records rather than compiled separately.
That removes the failure mode that causes most bureau data-quality problems: a separate spreadsheet that was accurate when it was created and has been drifting from the loan book ever since.
- Borrower identity and facility details taken from the client and loan records
- Outstanding balances and repayment performance as recorded, not re-entered
- Arrears position consistent with your BNR portfolio classification
- Review before export, so finance sees exactly what will be submitted
Consistent with what you report to BNR
Because both the Credit Reference Bureau submission and the BNR return are generated from the same loan records, a borrower classified as in arrears in one is in arrears in the other. Institutions running these as two separate manual exercises routinely discover they disagree, usually when someone else points it out.
Frequently asked questions
- What is CRB reporting in Rwanda?
- CRB reporting is the submission of borrower and loan performance data by lenders to Rwanda’s Credit Reference Bureau. The bureau consolidates this across lenders so that any institution assessing a new application can see the applicant’s existing credit obligations and repayment history in the market.
- Does Unguka360 submit our data to the bureau automatically?
- Unguka360 prepares and exports the submission data from your loan records and lets your team review it before anything leaves the institution. Submission itself remains under your control, following the channel and cycle the bureau specifies.
- Can we check an applicant’s existing obligations before lending?
- Credit bureau enquiries are made through the bureau itself. What Unguka360 does is ensure the data your institution contributes is accurate and consistent with your loan book, and hold the outcome of your checks against the client record as part of KYC before disbursement.
